Adopting Seniors
Seniors have a lot to give Many senior hounds find themselves alone at advanced ages through no fault of their own. Owners die or maybe it is the unwillingness to care for the now aging family pet. Circumstances mean new homes must be found. These circumstances aren't always justified, but they exist. Former pets wind up sitting in concrete-and-steel cages staring as people leave the shelter, young pup in hand. That's just a darn shame. Older hounds have so much to give. While it can be fun to shape a life, something you can do with a younger hound, it's just as much fun to discover the already-developed personality of a senior. These seniors who have been in loving homes frequently don't have behavioral issues; they just need someone to see them through the transition with love and understanding and to enjoy them for what they are. Yes, older hounds have less time to spend with us. But so what? It isn't the length of the journey that matters; its the quality of the time spent traveling together. Whether one year or 10, if it's time spent in mutual love and enjoyment, it's time well-spent. Opening your heart and giving a senior a chance at love and companionship, you will no doubt find that love comes in all shapes, sizes and ages. |
