Foster Feature

This is a new feature about the hounds currently in our foster care written from the Basset's perspective.

Ralphie (Evil Eye McNasty)

Hi! My name is Ralphie and I am a foster hound for the Basset Hound Rescue of Southern California. What’s a foster hound you say? It’s a Basset Hound that has been rescued by BHRSC and has found a temporary home with a loving family till someone who understands their needs and issues comes forward to adopt our hounds.

When I first came to BHRSC from the San Bernardino Animal Shelter, I was in bad shape. I needed fatty lumps removed (a lot of big ones) so I had a lot of stitches in me all over the place. BHRSC found me a great home with folks who loved and understood Basset’s and their needs plus they had 2 Basset’s of their own for me to play with.

As I recovered, my new family monitored my every move, ouch, ache and pain. They took me to my doctor appointments and made sure I had everything I needed. They were concerned about my problems walking. At first the doctors and them thought it was the pain medication I was taking for my issues. It was something else. But now I am better because of my doctor, family and BHRSC.

By now I am sure you laughed at my Pirate picture. Where I started and where I am now are two very different places. Now I love to have fun, dress up, go places, and irritate the other bassets on a regular basis. I am also considered a little Evil at time. Evil you say? I’ve been known to raid cupboards for my crew and take all the goodies outside to share. I have my own bachelor pad and entertain the other dogs there every day. I have been selected to be the King of the HOWLelujah Chorus at the Doo Dah parade this year. Not bad for someone who could not almost walk at one time.

I am waiting for that special family to make me a permanent member. Someone who understands elder basset needs and issues. A family who will be there to love me. In turn let me love them. I would love to play and share a warm house with no stairs. This will allow my foster family to be able to accept another basset in need so they can be brought back to health and given the same opportunities I had.
